Public Information
Architectural Review Board (ARB) meetings are held on the second Monday each month at 7:00 pm, pending the need to meet. The ARB does not do building inspection, only architectural review and zoning compliance. All Village residents are welcome and encouraged to attend the meetings.
Regular meeting: August 11, 2008
A meeting of the Village of Riverlea Planning Commission was held August 11, 2008. Members present were Michael Jones (Building/Zoning Commissioner), Bryce E. Jacob, Jody Croley Jones, and Lisa J. Morris. Also present were Paul Unrue, Diane Slater, Dennis Meacham, Jeff Colwell, and Mary Jo Cusack, Mayor of Riverlea. Pamela M. Colwell served as Clerk. Michael Jones called the meeting to order at 7:30 pm.
- An application for a Certificate of Appropriateness was presented by Paul Unrue to replace the gutters with copper gutters and install a new garage door at 141 West Southington Avenue. Unrue provided detailed computer graphics and samples. Jacob moved and Morris seconded a motion to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness with the following conditions: amend the application to include additional white trim on the front of the house around the upper windows and gable, the copper gutters to remain unpainted, and the garage door will be Clopay Classic 8 light in brown. There were no comments from residents. The following was recorded on the motion: yea, 4: Croley Jones, Jacob, Jones and Morris: nay, 0. The motion carried 4-0.
- An application for a Certificate of Appropriateness was presented by Diane Slater to add decorative trim to the front entryway, and a new front stoop, walkway and two small knee walls at 314 West Riverglen Drive. There was much discussion regarding the stoop, walkway and walls. It was suggested that the walls needed a cap and would hold up better if made of whole brick and not just brick facing. Brick matching the existing brick on the house would help tie everything together. The decorative trim on the front entryway was discussed at length with the style being undecided for the time being. Slater will need to price materials, get quotes for the work to be done and then make a decision about what exactly will be done to the entryway, stoop, walkway and knee walls. She will also need to provide landscaping details if changes are to be made. Croley Jones moved and Morris seconded to table the application until Slater can return with all of the details and samples. There were no comments from residents. The following was recorded on the motion: yea, 4: Croley Jones, Jacob, Jones and Morris: nay, 0. The motion carried 4-0.
- An application for a Certificate of Appropriateness by Dennis Meacham to add two additions, a master bedroom and great room, to 5794 Westchester Court. The existing siding will be replaced with new lap siding and the roof shingles will be dimensional shingles. The garage siding and roof will match the house and the garage doorway will be widened. The side entrance and walkway will be removed since there will be a new back entrance closer to the garage. To balance the new dormer and side door, a sidelight would be needed. The Commission felt the addition facing the front needed to have stone matching the rest of the front of the house. The siding would not fit in with the existing materials and style. A Street Bond of $2,000 will be required. Croley Jones moved and Morris seconded a motion to approve the application with changes of adding a sidelight to the side door, the word “optional” removed on the back stone chimney, and on the front elevation matching stone on the addition with a stone sample to be approved by the Planning Commission. Only one comment from residents – Cusack liked the matching stone on the front of the addition. The following was recorded on the motion: yea, 4: Croley Jones, Jacob, Jones and Morris: nay, 0. The motion carried 4-0.
The Commission took no additional action. Jones announced the next meeting will be held September 8, 2008. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.
